Neck Lift for a Younger, Sleeker Jawline and Neck

The team at the Plastic Surgery Group of New Jersey has frequently observed how the upper and lower face age at different paces. Sometimes, the lower face, including the jawline, chin and neck, can start to sag and wrinkle more quickly than the eyes and forehead. To address this disparity in the aging process, our plastic surgeons offer neck lift surgery, which can be performed independently of other facial rejuvenation procedures, to counteract the laxity and sagging around the jawline and neck. Read on to learn more about what neck lift can accomplish.

Eyelid Surgery vs Forehead Lift: Which is Right for Me?

Eyelid surgery vs forehead liftIf you’re considering plastic surgery to restore beauty and youth to your eyes and face, you may be wondering which procedure is right for you. Eyelid surgery and forehead lift are two facial rejuvenation procedures often sought out by people who want to get rid of wrinkles, sagging eyebrows or the dreaded dark circles underneath the eyes. Before choosing to undergo one or both procedures, it’s important to understand the differences between the two.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Puffy upper eyelids can not only make someone look tired, but also interfere with their eyesight. In some cases, skin from the upper eyelids can hang so low that it can block peripheral vision or make it hard for someone to open their eyes completely. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can address these issues and improve the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids or both. Removing excess skin or lifting drooping skin can allow someone to open their eyes with ease and make the eyes look bigger and brighter.

Other patients seek eyelid surgery to treat dark circles, or “bags” underneath the eyes that make them appear older or unrested. Lower eyelid surgery removes excess skin and fat to achieve a rejuvenated look throughout the eye area.

What is Forehead Lift?

Have you ever been told you look upset because of your “furrowed” brow? Wrinkles and deep creases across the forehead can make someone look unapproachable and/or add to an older, tired facial appearance. Forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, raises and reshapes “falling,” sagging skin around the eyebrows that often causes the eyelids to appear hooded.

The procedure softens the deep creases and wrinkles around the forehead for a more youthful and beautiful facial appearance.

At The Plastic Surgery Group, we offer New Jersey and New York City patients several different techniques to the forehead lift depending on each patient’s individual goals and needs. Many of our patients like to combine forehead lift with facelift or eyelid surgery for a smoother, brighter-looking face.

Choosing a Procedure: What You Need to Consider

Before pursuing one of these procedures, ask yourself the following:

  • Are your eyebrows in a good position but your upper eyelids droop due to excess skin? If so, you may need upper eyelid surgery.
  • Does the skin on your forehead hang but there is no extra skin on the upper eyelids? If the answer is yes, forehead lift may be a better option.
  • Do you have excess skin in the upper eyelids and sagging eyebrows? If so, your plastic surgeon may recommend both eyelid surgery and forehead lift.

The best way to find out which procedure is right for you is to meet with an experienced plastic surgeon. The Plastic Surgery Group has helped thousands of New Jersey and New York City patients achieve a youthful facial appearance. Facial Plastic Surgery Makes You More Likeable, Study Says

Plastic surgery makes you likeableWe all know that facial plastic surgery can change the way someone feels about themselves, but can it also change how others feel about that person? A new study says yes. Researchers from Georgetown University found women who underwent certain facial plastic surgery procedures were rated as more likable, attractive and feminine by strangers.

What the Study Found

Researchers set out to find just how much personality perception changes after someone undergoes facial plastic surgery. A total of 170 people were shown the before and after photos of 30 women who had one or more of the following procedures: facelift, eyebrow lift, neck lift, upper and lower eye lift, and chin implant. No reviewer saw both the before and after photo of the same woman and no one knew whether plastic surgery had been performed. They were then asked to rate the photos on eight traits: aggressiveness, extroversion, likeability, trustworthiness, risk-seeking, social skills, attractiveness and femininity. The results found plastic surgery had a positive impact on how people are perceived by others. Here are some highlights of the findings:

  • Photos of women with facial plastic surgery were rated significantly higher for likeability, social skills, attractiveness and femininity.
  • Photos of women who underwent facelift or lower eye lift were rated highest.
  • Women who underwent facelift surgery scored highest in likeability.

Our Facial Plastic Surgery Procedures

Researchers believe first impressions are heavily based on a person’s facial features. For example, someone with a furrowed brow may be perceived to be displeased or upset. Researchers also believe a person looks happier when the contours of the face are lifted, and as a result, may be judged to be likable and approachable.

The Plastic Surgery Group offers the facial procedures mentioned in the study above as well as other procedures for people who are looking to rejuvenate and improve their facial features.

  • Facelift raises the contours of the face by eliminating excess skin. It also rejuvenates the face by tightening skin and removing wrinkles. The Plastic Surgery Group offers several approaches to facelift surgery depending on the needs and goals of each patient.
  • Chin surgery reshapes the chin area with either an implantable prosthetic or liposuction and brings a more balanced look to facial features.
  • Neck lift improves signs of aging around the jawline and neck by removing loose, excess fat and skin.
  • Eyelid surgery restores youth to the area around the eyes by eliminating sagging skin on the upper and lower eyelids.
  • Forehead lift smoothens the lines formed across the forehead, restoring a smooth, youthful look to the face.
  • Rhinoplasty can improve the size and shape of the nose, providing balance to the rest of the person’s facial features.
